One in 100 000 in the UK have an leg amputated
through injury or illness. So on average the
number of legs for the UK population is 1.99999
Which means that 99.9% of the UK population have
more legs than average!
Is this true? Ask your teacher!
Mars Attack!!
The planet Mars has just passed 34,646,418 miles
from the Earth. 12 September, 57617 BC was the
last time Mars was as close to the Earth
as it is now, and it can be seen clearly with
the naked eye in the night sky. It is already
starting to move away form the Earth at a rate
of 6 miles per minute and this rate of retreat
will accelerate rapidly. Don't worry if you
miss it because it will be this close again on

15% is a pass at maths GCSE
Examiners at the Oxford and Cambridge and RSA
(OCR) board had to lower the pass mark for
Grade C as pupils found this years examination
too difficult. It has emerged that candidates
were able to achieve a Grade C after scoring
only 15% in the examination. As usual it is
blamed on the teachers, candidates were expected
to have done more algebra than in previous years.
One examiner said the problem was that students
hadn't been well prepared for the changes.
One student who was well prepared was Arran
Fernandez from Surrey. At 8 years old he became
the youngest person to receive an A* at GCSE.
He took the papers when he was 7 years and 11
months even surpassing Ruth Lawrence who
achieved a Grade A at O level when she was 8
years and 10 months. He has now narrowed his
career options down to mathematician, lorry
driver or space explorer!
